The MSU-Northern Lights basketball team (7-2) will take the court this weekend for the first time in eight days when they hit the road to play in Arizona.
New Media Broadcasters spoke with Lights coach Shawn Huse and he reminisced about the Alberta-Augustana game last Thursday and how they were able to win.
“We had a size advantage on them for sure,” Huse said. “We needed that. We’re going to keep needing that and have to step up as a committee and help with rebounding and defending around the paint.”
The Lights are in the Greater Phoenix area for the Cactus Classic, which sees matchups with Ottawa University-Arizona, Arizona Christian University, and Huntington University. Coach Huse simplified the process needed to play against those caliber teams and highlighted the lack of personnel on the team.
“We just have to be ready to go and locked in on both ends of the court,” Huse said. “We’re playing against very good quality, physical, talented, capable NAIA teams and we’re going in a little short-handed.
“We are pretty banged up right now,” Huse continued. “(We’re) paying attention to it and what things we need to do, but we’re going to go out and give everything we’ve got.”
“We know every game on our schedule is important,” Huse said. “We’re playing that way and prepping that way.”
