MSU-Northern Lights basketball continues to struggle in 2024. The team is currently on a six-game losing streak dating back to the start of the season. New Media Broadcasters asked head coach Shawn Huse what has been behind the team’s struggles to begin the campaign.
“I like how we played (last weekend), honestly,” Huse said. “It (just) might not have shown.”
“Those are two tough teams (in Valley City State and Dickinson State),” Huse continued. “With the win-loss column, it’s not pretty, but I feel like this team will get there.”
“I do think we are a lot better than our record says,” Huse said. “But, now we’ve got these games coming up and we have to go prove it.”
There were games on the schedule at the time of the interview, but now it’ll just be a single one as the Lights will welcome Saint Mary’s University of Calgary to the Armory Gym this week. Huse gave a scouting report for the team coming in.
“(We’ve) got a team coming in that was ranked really high this year in Canada,” Huse said. “By no means (is) that any easier than what we’ve gone through.”
“I think we’re ready to get back after it and we’ll be preparing like anybody else this week,” Huse continued. “We’ll be preparing for a team that likes to come in and shoot a lot of 3’s and they like to run and they like to stretch the floor.”
“We want to prepare for that (and) prepare for their style,” Huse said.
Northern (1-6) will play Saint Mary’s University of Calgary on Saturday following the Skylights game. Tip-off is scheduled for 3pm.
