MSU-Northern Lights basketball put themselves back in the win column one week ago, defeating St. Mary’s University of Calgary, (88-72). New Media Broadcasters spoke with head coach Shawn Huse and he said how his team got it done.
“I thought we finished (the game) really strong,” Huse said. “That’s something that this group had to work on, so that was encouraging the other night.”
“I think that we looked way better down the stretch and more organized and more on the same page and more poised than we have in a lot of our games this year,” Huse continued.
The Lights have gotten a much-needed week off to prepare in the classroom and get back into shape in the weight room and at practice. The team will next be flying to Arizona to face two teams well above .500 in No. 9 the Master’s University (California) and Benedictine Mesa on back-to-back days. Coach Huse said what kinds of challenges his guys are facing when they go to the Cactus Classic just outside of Phoenix.
“We certainly have our work cut out for us going down there,” Huse said. “There’s no question.”
“You’re going up against a pretty experienced, loaded team on Monday (in the Master’s) and then another good, tough team on Tuesday (in Benedictine Mesa),” Huse continued.
The (2-6) Lights will take on The Masters on Monday with tip-off scheduled for 2pm and then face Benedictine Mesa on Tuesday around noon. Both games will take place in Arizona and New Media Broadcasters will have recaps once the games go final.
