Lights Basketball Signs Washington Native

Earlier this week, the MSU-Northern basketball team signed its latest recruit, 6-foot-2-inch guard Cinque Maxwell. The Skagit Valley Community College product hails from University Place, WA, just outside of Tacoma.

While with the Cardinals in 2023-24, Maxwell averaged 10.6 points a game and shot the ball well from both the floor (53.6 percent) and from 3-point land (36.1). Before this season, he was playing high school ball, where he scored more than 1,000 points and led his Curtis High School basketball team to back-to-back sectional championships in the state of Washington.

Outside of basketball, Maxwell is a man of academia as he will complete his associate degree of business in just one year of community college. He will transition to Northern and earn his bachelor’s degree in the same field with three years of eligibility remaining.

Said Northern coach Shawn Huse of his latest player addition in a press release, “I would describe him as extremely coachable and someone (who) knows basketball and school and everyday life all go hand in hand. I truly believe his best work on the court lies ahead.”

This is the third signing of the offseason for MSU-Northern Lights basketball, which is looking to improve on an (11-18) record from 2023-24 and will return a plethora of players for 2024-25.
