MSU-Northern wrestling took a step back as a program after a defeat at home against Embry-Riddle on Saturday. New Media Broadcasters caught up post-match with head coach Tyson Thivierge and he shared his displeasure with how the contest went.
“There was nothing to say after that one,” Thivierge said. “We didn’t have any fight. There were really no bright spots to talk about. I’m not going to shy away from that stuff.”
“(The wrestlers) know better. We were on a good path leading up to this dual,” Thivierge continued. “We were flat footed (and) didn’t trust our conditioning.”
“We acted like we were out of shape and we put the time in for months on end,” Thivierge said. “To come out here and we’re flat, it was bad.”
The Lights are gearing up for a dual against Providence. Thivierge said that this meet, while important for wrestling in Montana, is not what the season will come down to. It will instead be a precursor for what is to come.
“Whether it’s this community or anybody that puts weight on duals, wrestling is a different sport than football and basketball,” Thivierge said. “It’s about individual performances. It’s about just getting back on track.”
“We had a good weekend in Missouri (two weeks ago),” Thivierge continued. “That’s not the success of the season. The season will be dictated by conference and nationals.”
The Lights have their final dual meet of the season inside the Armory Gym against the University of Providence on Wednesday night. Coverage begins around 7pm.
