JORDAN, Mont. (NMB) – The Little Shell Tribe of Chippewa Indians have been awarded the lease for Hell Creek State Park, located along Fort Peck Lake north of Jordan.
The lease assignment was made on Thursday with a unanimous vote from the State Parks and Recreation Board.
The Army Corps of Engineers must still approve the arrangement once they receive an operations plan from the Tribe.
The area will remain a public access site and Fish, Wildlife and Parks will continue to oversee the park in some capacity for now.
The Tribe is planning to set up their own camping reservation system in the near future.
