HAVRE, Mont. (NMB) – As fall continues, local construction projects are reaching their conclusion.
Mike Moore, Montana Department of Transportation Project Manager says the Lohman E/W Project and Chinook to Harlem Culverts Project have been completed.
The culverts project sets the stage for the complete reconstruction of US 2 between Chinook and Harlem.
“I think the improvement is going to be needed. It has been needed for quite some time. And I think it’s going to be similar to what we’ve seen with Lohman East and West, and the feedback we’ve gotten from that. It’s night and day different from what we’ve had for years.”
Future work on US 2 between Chinook and Harlem is not expected to begin until at least 2024.
“With the wider constructed driving surface and the shoulders and the flattening out of the sideslopes, the Lohman project, and along with the future corridor projects, should greatly improve the flow and safety for the traveling public and should greatly reduce the severity of crashes. These improvements should also see a decrease in the wildlife versus vehicle crashes, especially with the better visibility off the shoulders at night.”
As for the Boulevard Avenue Project in Havre, Moore says all that’s left to complete is a bit of seeding work.
