HAVRE, Mont. (NMB) – Dozens of vehicles drove through Havre on Sunday afternoon to show support for President Donald Trump as the General Election nears.
The ‘Trump Parade’ began at the local GOP Headquarters and made its way around Havre for over an hour.
There was no specified parade route and at times the large caravan got split up at times, but there presence in town was unmistakable, with hazard lights flashing and horns honking all throughout Havre.
Hill County GOP Chair Andrew Brekke said he was impressed by the turnout.
“The result was amazing. I think we had a little over 60 cars, around 60 cars, it happened organically, pretty much what you see in other states and other areas. It’s just a bunch of Trump supporters and freedom loving Americans who want to get together and do something.”
One of the people that helped organize the event was Jack Slawter, Republican National Committee Field Officer.
“Way bigger turnout than we expected. We just went down the main avenue and 5th (Avenue) there. Just kept going by. We saw a lot of support, a lot of car honks, lots of different people. Trump supporters at different gas stations, walking down the street, all over Havre.”
Two local politicians running for the state legislature also took part in the rally, as Republican candidates G. Bruce Meyers (House District 32) and Ed Hill (HD 28) drove their vehicles in the parade.
“I like to see the participation,” Hill said when asked if this rally could help boost his campaign. “I think that as I was out into the community and campaigning, I kind of felt the same eagerness, I guess you could say, that’s what I would call it. More of a movement to the conservative side…I think really what I saw was the people not liking the direction the Democratic party is turning liberal. I think that the two platforms are really starkly divided.”
There were a few counter protesters scattered throughout town, including one car that was loudly playing the song ‘FDT’ on their stereo system.
I saw some guys, they were out flipping us off and stuff, but we let it blow on by and kept going, moving, doing exactly what Republicans do. Just power through,” Slawter said.
