The Lolo National Forest plan is currently under revision. Amanda Milburn the Forest Plan Revision Team lead explains forest plans and why the Lolo Forest plan is being revised now.
“Each national forest is guided by an overarching land management plan, which is commonly known as a forest plan and these plans, they don’t have site specific actions or activities in them, but they just provide for the overall management guidance, and it guides all decision making on that forest. So, the Lolo Forest has a current plan that was signed in 1986 and now is the time to revise it, and so it’s a really exciting opportunity, because it doesn’t happen very often.” -Amanda Milburn
She continues to explain the current status in revising the forest plan.
“Actually, one of the first elements that we have to go through in a plan revision is to really define the need to change and document that. In order to help us do that we actually first begin with an assessment, and so that’s the phase that the Lolo Forest is in right now, is we’re compiling a draft assessment, which is really a snapshot of the existing conditions, status and trends on the landscape, and once we have a really clear vision or understanding of what that is that helps us define what need to change there is from the existing regulations.”-Amanda Milburn
