The Montana Bureau of Reclamation recently revealed their operating plans for the Milk River Project. The Milk River area is projected to have average to below average precipitation for October, despite an increase in elevation of 136% when looking at prior estimates. Comparatively, precipitation in September was above average for both the St. Mary and Milk River reservoirs.
These numbers look to remain consistent until March of 2027. Year over year, water levels in the Milk River are up 3%, nearly reaching its all time record. Drought conditions range from none to abnormal throughout the basin.
