GREAT FALLS, Mont. (NMB) – A man was arraigned in U.S. District Court in Great Falls this week based on allegations that he attempted to murder a man on the Rocky Boy’s Reservation in 2019.
Dakota Houle, 25, residence unknown, pleaded not guilty on Tuesday at his arraignment to the charges of assault with intent to commit murder, kidnapping, assault with a dangerous weapon, assault resulting in serious bodily injury and use of a firearm during a crime of violence.
Houle was indicted by a Grand Jury in September. According to the indictment, on March 17th, 2019, Houle intentionally assaulted a man by striking and wounding him, with the intent to commit murder. Houle is also alleged to have used a shotgun and kidnapped the victim during the incident. The Grand Jury found that the firearm was discharged during the commission of the offenses.
If convicted of the most serious crime, Houle faces a maximum of life in prison, a $250,000 fine and five years of supervised release. Houle was detained pending further proceedings. The FBI investigated the case.
