MDT to start road project between Zurich and Harlem.

(US Highway 2) The Montana Department of Transportation says they’ll be starting construction on a portion of US Highway 2 between Zurich (zur-itch) and Harlem.

New Media Broadcasters spoke with Mike Moore, Engineering Project Manager with MDT, to ask for more information about this project.

“The driving force of this one is really safety. The existing roadway out there has some steep slopes, it’s narrow. We’re looking to improve as we have with much of the corridor coming from Havre. 40-foot top is showing to be safer in most of these areas along the Hi-Line, and it helps improve the traffic flow and overall safety”

The work is planned to start officially on Tuesday, October 1st with shoulder crews working the stretch until the first snowfall of the season according to Moore.

No ground will be broken, nor will construction be done until next spring, with a start date on that coming at a later time.

Stay tuned for updates as they become available.
