MDT Wants Feedback on Proposed Project South of Fort Belknap

FORT BELKNAP, Mont. — The Montana Department of Transportation (MDT) is announcing and inviting the public to comment on a proposal that will resurface about 15 miles of Montana Highway 66 (MT 66), south of Fort Belknap. The project begins south of Wild Horse Road West at mile marker 35, and extends north, ending at the U.S. Highway 2 (US 2) intersection.

Proposed work includes applying a seal and cover (chip seal), upgraded pavement markings, and signage. An asphalt sealcoat is proposed for the shared use path that extends from Rodeo Drive north to US 2. The purpose of the project is to preserve the pavement and extend the service life of the roadway.

Construction is tentatively planned for 2028 depending on completion of design and availability of funds. No new right-of-way or utility relocations will be needed.

Partnering with the community is an important part of properly planning for future projects. MDT welcomes the public to provide ideas and comments on the proposed project. Comments may be submitted online at mdt.mt.gov/contact/comment-form.aspx or in writing to Montana Department of Transportation, Great Falls office, PO Box 1359, Great Falls, MT 59403-1359. Please note that comments are for project UPN 10847000.

The public is encouraged to contact Great Falls District Project Development Engineer Jimmy Combs at 406-454-5900 or Project Design Engineer Chris Ward at 406-454-5894 with questions or comments about the project.
