November Pony Post from Superintendent Gum

Pony Post, November 3rd, 2026

As we move through the fall season, we know in Havre that winter can show up at any given time. Havre Public Schools has revamped its cold weather protocols. If temperatures, which include wind chill as a factor, drop to -45 we will be on a late start schedule for the day. If the temperature drops to -50, schools will be closed for the day. As always, families will receive an email and a text from our Infinite Campus system regarding the change to the school day. These are not the only reasons we would notify parents and staff of a late start or closure, but certainly an issue that we see annually on the Hi-Line.

This past month, our school board trustees participated in our annual Learning Walks Program. This gives all trustees the opportunity to walk through all our facilities and speak with the building administrators to see what’s happening in all our facilities. Havre Public Schools has so many great things happening at each school that it’s become a great way for our schools to show off all the amazing work they do with the Havre students.

I recently did a radio interview with Dr. Jennifer Brown, the interim MSUN chancellor. We spoke about the partnership that has been created between Havre Public Schools and Northern. The class of 2026 was able to obtain over 1800 college credits this past year, which is amazing. Our partnership with Northern has helped so many high school students obtain college credits. Dustin Kraske and his team at Havre High School do an amazing job with this program.

Finally, Support Fridays continues to be successful for our students at Havre Public Schools. On average, we see a third of each building’s population that show up for extra support on those days, which is great!

If you have any questions, please reach out to me directly!

Sincerely,
