(Hi Line) The Montana Highway Patrol is reminding the public to drive safe around busses now that back-to-school season is officially underway.
New Media Broadcasters spoke with Sergeant John Metcalfe of the Montana Highway Patrol
“So, it is back to school season, and we just want to make sure people are driving safely around school buses, specifically when the school bus arm is out, and the lights are flashing. I do have some stats, this is just Lewis and Clark County for the last school year, this does not include Helena city limits. But in Lewis and Clark County last year there was 144 violations called in by school bus drivers. So, it absolutely is an issue”
Metcalfe says that each violation of passing a school bus illegally can result in a stacking fine of 285 dollars, with multiple convictions eventually leading to possible jail time.
