HAVRE, Mont. (NMB) – Winter approaches and for those who are struggling to keep their home warm, there are programs in place to help out. Montana Energy Share Board Member Greg Jergeson says that Energy Share of Montana is a complimentary program to the federally-funded Low Income Energy Assistance Program, or LIEAP, but offers loans to people experiencing an energy emergency.
“We will help people up to about $750 in assistance when they have such an emergency. They’re encouraged to pay it back. If in a 10-year period they’ve paid a part or more of it back, they then apply again in the future.”
Energy Share is administered through the local HRDC offices around Montana.
“The best way to get signed up is to go to HRDC. In our area, for Blaine, Hill and Liberty Counties, the HRDC in Havre handles this and their staff people at the HRDC know the program very well and would be able to advise a customer whether or not there’s available assistance.”
