(US Senate) U.S. Senator Steve Daines, Senator Tim Sheehy, Congressman Ryan Zinke and Congressman Troy Downing today introduced a slate of bills which they say will strengthen and support Montana’s tribal communities, ensure access to clean water and updated infrastructure and keep the critical Bull Mountains Mine open.
One of these bills is The “Northern Montana Water Security Act”, which Daines’ office says would complete the final Indian Rights Water Settlement, the Fort Belknap Indian Community Water Rights Settlement, in Montana after years of negotiations
It would provide 1.3 billion dollars meant to improve infrastructure and economic development for tribal water users, authorize 300 million dollars in funding to complete the restoration of the Milk River Project and Dodson South Canal and prevent litigation by affirming the Fort Belknap Indian Community’s senior water rights.
