(Missoula) – The Montana outdoor economy grew 14% from 2021 to 2022. According to the latest report by the U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis (BEA), outdoor recreation accounted for 4.3% of Montana’s gross domestic product, positioning the state third in the U.S. based on the proportion of its economy associated with outdoor recreation’s economic impact.
The 2022 economic impact of outdoor recreation nationwide is $1.1 trillion, with employment for 5 million workers. Outdoor recreation now constitutes 2.2% of the nation’s GDP and employs 3.2% of the entire U.S. workforce.
