Anglers can head back to the water full-time as Montana Fish, Wildlife, and Parks has lifted “hoot-owl” fishing restrictions on the Smith and Sun Rivers.
Starting today, the daily 2:00 p.m. to midnight fishing ban is officially over. State wildlife officials say recent cooler weather has successfully lowered water temperatures, and the forecast looks promising for keeping river conditions steady.
The restrictions were originally put in place to protect local fish populations from heat-related disease and mortality.
