HELENA, Mont. (NMB) – The Montana Department of Public Health and Human Services reported 1,161 new COVID-19 cases in their Friday morning update, the third day in a row surpassing the 1,000 mark.
The number of confirmed cases of the Omicron variant in the state is up to 84 as of Tuesday, with cases having been identified in 22 counties, including locally in Hill, Blaine, Chouteau and Fergus Counties.
The state health department says that Omicron has taken over as the dominant variant, making up 79 percent of the 33 cases tested by the state last week. All other sequenced cases were Delta.
Gallatin County has reported 1,114 cases of the virus since Tuesday, including 254 new cases on Friday.
Missoula County reported 252 new cases on Friday, followed by Yellowstone with 151, Silver Bow with 77, Lewis and Clark with 67, Cascade with 65, and Flathead with 59.
Montana’s COVID-19 death toll is up to 2,917, with 152 Montanans currently hospitalized with COVID-19 and over 6,100 known active cases of the virus in the state.
