HELENA, Mont. (NMB) – Montana’s minimum wage is increasing to $9.20 per hour on January 1st.
Montana’s minimum wage is adjusted annually based on changes to inflation, as required due to a Montana law passed by the state legislature in 2005.
The current minimum wage of $8.75 is increasing by 45 cents due to the large increase in inflation. The Montana Department of Labor says The Consumer Price Index rose by 5.25% from August 2020 to August 2021.
Areas hit hardest by inflation include energy costs, which saw a 25 percent increase; and used vehicles cost, which saw a 32 percent increase.
The federal minimum wage has remained at $7.25 an hour since 2009.
