(Havre) – The city of Havre’s new public works director Trevor Mork addressed questions about water in the Havre area tasting and smelling like chlorine. Mork explains the process of why the water tastes this way.
“The Havre water treatment plant is pulling water mainly from the Milk River. But as spring time comes, snow melts that we do get a large amount of water from Beaver Creek and Big Sandy Creek. Both those are seasonal streams that in this time of year they will be bringing not just water, they’re bringing higher levels of sand and also microorganisms that we can’t see that are a major health concern, and to treat that we are doing our best to ensure that all those, what can be seen and can’t be seen are treated adequately and there may be a chlorine smell to your water.“-Mork
Mork goes on to say that despite the chlorine smell the water is tested and safe to drink, but anyone who is concerned about the chlorine taste in their water can either, boil the water, or fill up the water in a pitcher and place it in the refrigerator.
