The MSU-N Lights basketball team was on the road this past weekend in Helena. The team lost its first game of the Comfort Suites Classic to Corban University by three points and came back with a 19-point victory over Embry-Riddle University.
New Media Broadcasters caught up with head coach Shawn Huse and he detailed the last seconds of the Corban game and how it came down to the final shot for the Lights.
“Coming down the floor down three, I was not going to use a timeout and let them run their defense; that’s their specialty,” Huse said. “Unfortunately, I thought we did everything about right for the most part.”
“We had a few moments where we got in a hurry,” Huse continued. “We got two pretty good looks. I don’t think you’re going to get much better than that. We just missed them and that’s basketball.”
Like the week before, Northern bounced back, this time beating Embry-Riddle University, (78-59) the next night. Coach Huse explained step by step what the team did to wipe away the loss from their minds and get back out there and control the next one from start to finish.
“We went back to the drawing board right away as we get to the hotel room, dive right into film,” Huse said. “We then have our regular day of preparation (and) study table and then have to play that next one. Man, they came out firing.
Huse and the Lights will have a two-week break before the team plays their home opener on Dec. 2 against Concordia University of Edmonton.
