The MSU-Northern Rodeo Team traveled to Miles City over the weekend for the MCC Rodeo. There were two separate MCC competitions. Both Lights and Skylights had a good showing, with the women placing 3rd and 2nd in the two competitions. The Men’s Team placed 3rd in the first competition before winning the second rodeo over Montana State by a score of 485 to 480.
With their first championship in ten years for the Lights, Head Coach Doug Kallenberger speaks about his team’s big win:
MSUN Rodeo coach Doug Kallenberger – “Overall for me it was just the men’s team that really, really came on this weekend, and finished third in the first rodeo and then they won the second rodeo. You Know, it was kind of where we talked about all year long, just be consistent, you know? Gettin’ your first horse down, gettin’ your first steer or calf down. Just gettin’ your first time in and keeping yourself alive. And then to watch them boys come back, you know, Sunday morning in the championship round and just continue to capitalize on every opportunity they got was, was really cool.”
Two of the rider’s critical in the MSU-Northern victory were Garrett Cunningham and Ethan Frasier. Cunningham won both Sadle Bronc riding competitions and Frasier placed second in both Bareback Riding competitions. Coach Kallenberger, who is always a team first person, took time to talk about how great of a performance the two Lights had over the weekend:
MSUN Rodeo coach Doug Kallenberger – “I’ll tell you what, Ethan and Garrett Cunningham had really showed up. Ethan Frasier and Garrett Cunningham have showed up this spring. Every single horse they’ve been drawn, they’ve capitalized on it. The, the great and fun thing for us this weekend is for both of them, they’ve already made the College National Finals Rodeo.”
Congratulations to the Lights & Skylights Rodeo Team on a fantastic showing. MSU-Northern travels to Montana University this Friday.
