The MSU-Northern volleyball Skylights have had their most successful week of the season and at the right time as well. The team is coming off a two-match winning streak with victories at Carroll and versus Rocky Mountain College. Sophomore libero Baily Egan was named Frontier Conference Defender of the Week.
Coach Jerry Wagner was asked about Egan’s performance over the course of those two games and how her efforts have translated in her first full season of playing consistently.
“It’s very gratifying to see someone like Baily get this,” Wagner said. “She’s a hard worker and I still feel like she’s a rookie, but she’s really playing solid for us in that libero position.”
“(She is a) very stabilizing player (and) personality,” Wagner continued. “(She) just has all the traits. It’s culminating into a very good year for her and she’s just a great teammate.”
With the Frontier Conference Tournament approaching on Friday, Coach Wagner shared with the listeners what his team has been doing to prepare for game action.
“I feel like that preparation has been ongoing for the entire season,” Wagner said. “We’re treating this like it’s the next opponent.”
“We’re doing everything that we normally do but with a greater understanding of what makes us understandable,” Wagner continued. “We’re still smoothing things out so we can be at our best.”
Stay tuned for a preview story on later Thursday of Northern’s first opponent in the tournament, Montana Western.
