The Montana State University-Northern volleyball season is almost here. To kick off the official start to a new campaign, the Skylights will be holding three sets of camps from Jul 31. to Aug. 3 for kids spanning grades 3-12.
The camps will be run by MSU-Northern Skylights players alongside head coach Jerry Wagner and his staff.
“What I’m most excited about is my entire team is here,” Wagner said. “They will participate as camp coaches.”
“They are outstanding role models,” Wagner continued. “Those kids can look forward to a lot of fun and some great role models as they get introduced to the game of volleyball.”
Coach Wagner touched on a unique point about his entire team being able to help run camp. The team will be able to kill two birds with one stone by training with the kids and then train as a team after they go home.
“I purposefully run these camps during this time because I have my players here,” Wagner said. “My players are going to be training when these kids are done with their camp during the day. We’re going to be practicing at night.”
The Skylights open the regular season the day after the kids camps end with an exhibition against MSU-N Skylights Alumni at the Armory Gymnasium on Aug. 4. The team’s first match of record will start on Aug. 17 against the Evergreen State College, which is part of the Big Sky Challenge in Butte.
