HAVRE, Mont. (NMB) – During homecoming festivities on Saturday, MSU-Northern announced that the funding goal has almost been reached for phase one of the new football stadium.
Chancellor Greg Kegel says that around $2.2 million of the $2.5-$3 million needed to complete phase one has already been privately funded by donors.
Phase one includes the completion of a scoreboard, press box, some bleachers and having the field itself game ready for football and intramural sports.
Kegel says the university wants to start construction on phase one of the stadium by this spring at the latest.
“That is absolutely the plan,” Kegel says. “We’re hoping that once we start this, we can finish it in 3-4 months. That would be game ready by next fall for the first football game (of 2020).”
Phase two of the stadium, which includes a bookstore, classrooms and a common area, is expected to cost around $10 million. Kegel plans to go to the state legislature during the next legislative session to ask for appropriations, since it will include classroom and educational components.
