MSU-Northern Volleyball Finishes Preseason

The MSU-Northern Skylights volleyball program has completed preseason play after finishing with a split weekend at the Preseason Frontier Conference Tournament. New Media Broadcasters caught up with head coach Jerry Wagner and he broke down the play of the team from the start of the preseason to now.

“This has been an outstanding preseason for us,” Wagner said. “The caliber of opponents that we had and how we have been handling our work along the way has been very good for this team.”

“We came away from the preseason tournament despite going 2-2 and nobody thought we were going to do anything,” Wagner continued. “There were six teams there that could win this conference.”

“We were right there with all the situations that we need to be (and) with opportunities to have a different outcome and that is what is important right now,” Wagner said.

The team currently sits at (8-7) overall and Coach Wagner couldn’t be more confident in his group to take the next step when they embark into conference play later this week.

“I can’t underestimate how many great competitive intense situations we’ve been in against very good teams,” Wagner said. “We’ve now been finding our way to winning those (and) extending leads against very good teams.”

“We’ve taken some hits on the chin, but we’ve learned from every one of them,” Wagner continued. “We couldn’t feel better about what we’ve learned and that we have the desire to teach further.”

The Skylights take on the Montana Western Bulldogs at home on Friday night with a 7pm start time.
