(Bozeman) – Montana State University in Bozeman as started a new apprenticeship program, to help manufacturers grow job opportunity and meet the needs of their workforce.
New Media Broadcasters spoke with Paddy Fleming, the director of the Montana Manufacturing Extension Center, who told us what this certified apprenticeship program is all about.
“We help the manufacturers of Montana become more profitable, grow and innovate. We’re loosely based on the ag extension model. We have remote offices throughout the state, and we’re based in the College of Engineering at Montana State University.”-Fleming
Fleming went on to detail how the program works.
“This is designed for people that have no experience in manufacturing whatsoever or possibly High School students. It’s a yearlong program that starts out at fifteen dollars an hour for the first three months. For the next nine months they’re at twenty dollars an hour while they have to complete twenty-five online manufacturing classes. And at the end of the year, if they’ve completed the classes they take a test, they pass the test and they are a certified manufacturing associate, and the company will pay them twenty-five dollars an hour at that point.“-Fleming
