(NMB) This week is National 4h Week. The 4 H’s stand for Head, Heart, Hands and Health. Head to clearer thinking, Heart to greater loyalty, Hands for larger service and Health to better living. Hill County’s 4H programs just finished up their year with a year end banquet and are preparing for another year. Hill County Extension agent Colleen Pegar talked to New Media Broadcasters and told us what 4H is all about. “4H is a youth organization geared toward giving kids life skills that they’ll use, anywhere from communications to leadership opportunities. Caring for livestock, any indoor project you can think of sewing, quilting, cooking and baking.”
A lot of times in Montana, when people think of 4H they think of Farm animals, but Pegar says there’s plenty more to it than that. “There is lots. there is things like robotics or computer programming. There’s a bunch of STEM type activities that the youth can do. There’s really something for everybody if they don’t want to take a livestock project.”
Last year in Hill County 95 kids participated in 4H and there were 51 enrolled volunteers. If you would like to get involved in the Hill County 4H program or any other 4H program around the State call the County Extension office in your local County.
