A new roadway project is being proposed near Chester, but the Montana Department of Transportation is seeking public comment before beginning.
The project proposal is to apply a scrub seal and new pavement markings on about 22 miles of Highway 223, south of Chester. The project begins approximately south of the Liberty and Choteau County line and extends north for 22 miles ending south of Chester.
The project is tentatively projected to begin in 2024 and the total proposed work includes a scrub seal, new pavement markings, new warning and regulatory signs, and a bridge deck repair and seal over the Marias River Bridge. The purpose is to preserve the existing pavement and extend the service life of the existing asphalt.
