HELENA, Mont. (NMB) – Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks was scheduled to hold a hearing via Zoom and telephone on Monday afternoon to discuss a proposed amendment and repeal of rules that designated Tiber Reservoir as a water body suspected of containing aquatic invasive species.
However, no members of the public joined the meeting, so it adjourned after 15 minutes without any discussion.
In 2017, the detection of invasive mussel larvae resulted in adopting quarantine requirements for invasive mussels for Tiber Reservoir. Following regional guidelines for invasive mussel detection, intensive early detection monitoring was conducted over the past five years. Testing of Tiber Reservoir has resulted in no invasive mussel detections for five years, and the department is proposing the mandatory exit inspection requirements for Tiber Reservoir be removed.
The statewide quarantine measures to prevent the spread of invasive species remain in place.
