BISMARCK, N.D. (NMB) – The Bismarck Tribune reports that a North Dakota Trooper who fatally shot a Billings man after a pursuit will not be charged.
The incident occurred in early September on I-94 west of Mandan, when Trooper Steven Mayer shot 45-year-old Craig Knutson of Billings after being dispatched to assist in dealing with a reckless driver.
The Assistant Morton County State’s Attorney said that Mayer “acted within department policy in the incident.”
Video of the incident, as well as reports from numerous agencies, were released earlier this week.
Officers say a loaded revolver was found in or near Knutson’s lap.
