(Kelly Korsbeck) – MSU Northern basketball was on the road once again Saturday, to face the Montana Western Bulldogs.
In the opener, the Skylights had a rough start, down three at the end of the first 18-15, and trailing into the half 39-31. Things turned around after the break, with Northern moving ahead 60-54 at the end of three. Western would not give in easily, and forced an extra session with the teams tied at 73 at the end of regulation play.
A tightly and heatedly contested overtime saw a very late scuffle resulting a player from each squad ejected for the final few seconds of the game. Ultimately, the Skylights held on to win 81-78.
Canzas HisBadHorse put up 28 points for the contest, with Taya Trottier adding 11.
The Lights played a fairly close contest, heading to the locker room down 43-37 at the half. A Northern push in the second half brought a 54-54 tie at one point, but their host kept knocking away to clip the Lights 69-66.
Jack Reardon topped Northern scoring at 20 points, Leon Sayers the Fourth put in 11, and Raefe McEnroe dropped 10 points.
Northern will be back on the road for their next action, Thursday, January 30, as they take on Rocky Mountain College in Billings.
