Northern “C” Track

(Great Falls) – The second day of the Ralph Halverson Northern “C” Track meet took place on Friday in Great Falls. Top six finishers in each event qualify for the Class “C” State Meet in Missoula next weekend.

In the boys, 100- and 200-meters Nate Nelson of the Chester Joplin Inverness Hi-Line Hawks qualified for state taking 5th place in both events. The 800-meter run saw two boys qualify for state as CJI’s Cooper Streit (Street) placed 2nd, and Isiah Smith representing the Fort Benton Longhorns finished in 5th place. In the 4 by 400-meter relay the Longhorn Boys qualified for state with a 4th place finish. Moving to the boy’s field events, Dreyden Anderson of the Box Elder Bears and Braxton Hajenga of the Big Sandy Pioneers qualified by finishing 2nd and 3rd in the High Jump. CJI’s Dane Grammar was the champion in Discus with a throw of 157 feet 5 inches. The triple jump saw two District 9-C athletes qualify with Jaesun (Jason) Yrsa (Your-Sa) placed 3rd and Dreyden Anderson finished 5th.

Switching to the girl’s side, Etta Wicks of the Longhorns was the 100-meter champion in a time of 12.58 seconds. Her teammates Ally Jaques and Lilly Ferris also qualified along with the Turner Tornadoes Ali Doyle. Wicks claimed here second title of the meet placing first in the 200 meters in a time of 26.51 seconds. Also qualifying were the Tornadoes Ali Doyle and Brie Matson from C-J-I. Three Distinct 9-C Athletes advanced in the girls 100-meter hurdles as Turner’s Bridget Reed and Ali Doyle finished 1st and 2nd. Fort Benton’s Melodie Starman also qualified for state with a 5th place finish. In the 300 meter hurdles the Tornado duo of Doyle and Reed finished first and second again, but they flipped spots as Doyle finished first and Reed 2nd. Brie Matson from C-J-I finished 4th qualifying her for state. Two Northstar Knights qualified for state in the 1600 meters as Piper Miller finished 2nd and Emerson Kinsella finished 5th. District 9-C has four teams have punched their ticket to state in the girls 4 by 400-meter relay, Fort Benton, C-J-I, Northstar, and Big Sandy. Looking at the field events, Jayla Ramberg from the Hi-Line Hawks is the champion in the Triple Jump by jumping 34 feet 9 and a half inches. She will be joined at the state meet by her teammate Bri Matson and Fort Benton’s Bridger Ball. The Longhorns Jo Jo Manning placed second in the discus to secure her state spot. Two Chester-Joplin-Inverness athletes have qualified for state in the girl’s high jump as Audrey Young placed second and Brynn Kammerzell took third.

All these athletes advance to the Class “C” State meet which takes place next week in Missoula.
