On Saturday afternoon, the MSU-Northern Lights football team dropped their eighth game in a row, losing to No. 4 Montana Western, (56-14). The quarterback situation was still fluid as Zach Brooks started for the Lights, but Ashton Platt finished the contest. The latter threw nine times, completing three passes, but had two picks, one of which was returned for a touchdown early in the fourth quarter with the game out of reach.
Western protected a (35-0) lead at the half as Jake Humphrey found the end zone twice on the ground and Michael Palandri connected with three different receivers for scores. The Lights defense did get a Spencer Lehnerz interception in the third quarter that was returned inside the Western 10-yard line. Four plays later, running back Mason Dionne punched it in from one yard out for the first of his two touchdown rushes against his former team. The second touchdown occurred at the four-minute mark of the fourth quarter when Northern blocked a punt in Western’s end zone and set Dionne up immediately for the two-yard score.
Northern (0-8) will face Montana Tech on the road in Butte next week. Kickoff is scheduled for 1pm from Bob Green Field and can be heard on KPQX-92.5FM and HiLineToday.com
