While the MSU-Nothern rodeo teams are competing in the University of Montana rodeo this weekend, there were some participants who have already booked a spot in the sport’s ultimate collegiate event.
The College National Finals Rodeo takes place every year in late spring, well after school wraps up for each program that attends. Northern will be sending at least two individuals and one team to Casper, WY to represent Havre in the ultimate rodeo. Northern coach Doug Kallenberger shared his standouts with New Media Broadcasters.
“Garrett Cunningham has already made the College National Finals Rodeo,” Kallenberger said. “That was a done deal before we even (went to the University of Montana rodeo). He can’t be caught. He will be the champion in saddle bronc riding.”
“Mikenna Schauer will go in the breakaway (roping) and goat tying,” Kallenberger continued. “That’s kind of a done deal.”
“We have some kids (who still need to qualify),” Kallenberger said. “Chance Story, Gavin McLean, Talan Cummins all have a really good shot at going for individual events.”
“The women’s team has already qualified,” Kallenberger said. “They can’t be beat. They’ll make it to their fourth consecutive (College National Finals Rodeo).”
The Ford Wyoming Center in Casper, WY will play host to at least Cunningham, Schauer, and the entire MSU-N women’s rodeo team from June 9-15. Stay tuned to New Media Broadcasters to see if anyone else will be joining them after the conclusion of the University of Montana rodeo.
