Northern Wrestling Adding to Its Recruiting Class

The MSU-Northern Lights wrestling team had a busy last week, announcing multiple signings to join the program for the 2024-25 season.

Coach Tyson Thivierge announced that Keegan Hanson of Wrangell, AK is going to be a Lights wrestler. Hanson had an accomplished last season of high school wrestling, becoming a 2024 state champion and a two-time state placer on the mat in his career. He has weighed in for the 149-pound class as well as the 157-pound class, so there will be flexibility to move him around at different times during competitions.

The Lights’ wrestling team also added some experience, bringing in junior college transfer Travis Waldner. At 174 pounds, the Dexter, MO native was a standout at North Idaho College, placing twice as an NJCAA national qualifier. He was also able to help the Cardinals win the regular season district title, its first for the program since 2013. He will have two more years of eligibility remaining and start out competing at the 165-pound weight class.
