Havre, MT – Havre Northstars have opened the season 2-4 overall with loss to the Helena Reps and most recently to the Helena Senitors on Sunday. Havre fell in game one 4-0 and held a lead in game two before dropping the contest 9-8.
Northstar head coach Ben Mader said after the losses that he believes his team can compete with anybody. “I’d say as a team our biggest takeaway was we can with about anyone and they played really well together.”
Coach Mader also said the Northstars have had a couple of players step up and stand out so far in the early season. “Well in terms of standing we got a great start from Quin Elliot. I expect that outa him, he has been a workhorse on the mound for us.”
Coach Mader say they also had an unexpected stand out at catcher. “Unexpectedly it would be Micheal Thompson. He had to move in a catch for us in the second game against Helena and he did a fantastic job. I Think that was his first full Legion game behind the plate and he did a great job.”
The Stars start conference play this Sunday May 17, with a double header against the Medicine Hat Knights with game one first pitch at 1.pm.
