The Havre Northstars played at 10am on Thursday in the Montana/Alberta American Legion State ‘A’ Tournament against the Butte Miners. This was a rematch from a previous game on June 16, which the Miners won, (12-11). In Thursday’s edition, the result would be the same as the Miners sent the Northstars packing with a (14-1) defeat in five innings. The Northstars were officially eliminated from this season’s state tournament.
Anthony Knott did the most damage at the plate for Butte, driving in four of the 10 earned runs. Zach Tierney also had three RBIs, including a home run. Butte had two on the day, including that one and also one by Kenley Leary.
The Miners were able to draw seven walks. Havre got its only run in the fourth inning courtesy of a Colter Solomon RBI single.
Havre now turns its attention to next weekend. The North West Class A Regional Tournament will be from Fri, Aug. 4 to Tue, Aug 8. American Legion Park in Havre is going to play host to teams from far and wide. This marks the first time that Havre has ever hosted this prestigious tournament.
