(NMB) – The Havre Northstars just returned from taking on the Lethbridge Lakers and Vauxhall Spurs in double headers on Tuesday and Wednesday. The Northstars dropped their first game against Lethbridge 3-5, but won game 2 and both games against Vauxhall, outscoring opponents 32-8 and out hitting their opponents 24-14.
NMB spoke with Northstars head coach Ryan Divish about how they were able to bounce back after the loss against Lethbridge.
“We took a very patient approach, saw a lot of pitches, worked some walks, worked a lot of walks and honestly that kind of carried over into the next day against a much better team. Our patient approach at the plate was much better the second day and it kind of stemmed from the very first game being very impatient and swinging at a lot of early pitches in counts and hitting weak ground balls and weak fly balls.”
Divish said there was a lot to learn from the trip, and they now have their attention on the fundamentally sound Lethbridge Miners who travel to Havre to compete against the Northstars on Sunday at 2pm.
“I think mostly is just be solid in fundamentals because that’s how they play. They’re a very disciplined team and that’s kind of what we’re trying to work towards as well. That’s kind of how Lethbridge plays, they just play really solid, really fundamental. I think our players have a tendency to rise to the occasion against better teams or against teams with similar talent, similar experience. So, I’m hoping that continues.”
Currently the Northstars hold a 20-10-1 overall record and are sitting in second place of the American Legion North District A standings with a 12-2 conference record. up next is a home game against the Lethbridge Miners on Sunday June 29th and then Havre will be on the road for bout in Lethbridge against the Miners once again.
