The Havre Northstars traveled to Billings to take on the Cardinals for the first time. The doubleheader resulted in two competitive contests with Havre falling in the first game, (2-1) and then rebounding for an (11-8) win.
Game one was a pitcher’s dual as no runs were scored until the final inning. Tanner Delarosa got the ball for coach Patch Wirtzberger’s side and threw 6.2 innings of four-hit ball, striking out three batters in the process.
The Northstars got their lone run on a wild pitch in the top of the seventh inning as Terek Shipp walked and then went first to third on an Ezra Pyle single to create the run. Billings countered in the seventh, scoring one run on a single and then walking it off on an error.
Havre was back in control for game 2 at the start, scoring the first six runs of the game. The Northstars crossed the plate in every inning, generating offense by utilizing small ball, stealing 14 times in the contest.
The Cardinals chipped away, scoring four runs in the last two innings to make the score interesting, but coming up short. Shipp got the start on the mound, going five innings and striking out five. Quinn Elliot came in to record the final six outs and secure the win.
The Northstars (3-4) will have more than one week off of competition before getting back into game action. They’ll first have the Alumni Game on May 30 at American Legion Park.
