Northstars Taking Quick Break to Reflect

The Havre Northstars (3-4) have been down the middle to begin the season, taking one series, getting swept in another, and splitting a set of contests along with playing one game one time. New Media Broadcasters talked with head coach Patch Wirtzberger to dissect the latest road trip down to Billings last weekend. He said the biggest challenge to maneuver that day was the weather and having the patience to compete was what he most took out for the lessons learned.

“I think there was a lot of good that came out of that,” Wirtzberger said. “We got to get on the road together (and) see how the team traveled.”

“(We had to) fight through a little bit of adversity with weather delays,” Wirtzberger continued. “Overall, I was pleased with the way we came through it. More than the win is the way that the guys battled through those things.”

“That’s a really good team that we played down there and had a chance to win two games despite everything,” Wirtzberger said. “I was happy that we were able to improve in almost every facet of the games.”

By the time the Northstars take the field for the next competition, it will have been nearly two weeks since the Billings games wrapped up. This will be an evaluation period for Havre’s coaching staff as well as time for the players to stay loose and finish their finals. Wirtzberger shared how his team will still be practicing in the leadup to the next challenge.

“I think we get to analyze things that have been working and things that haven’t,” Wirtzberger said. “(The) two week break gives us a lot of time to try to fix those things mechanically and try to stay sharp with intersquad scrimmages so that we don’t get too rusty by the time that we take the field next Friday.”

“Overall, I’m excited about what we can accomplish here in the next couple of weeks without having to worry about playing any games,” Wirtzberger continued.

Havre’s next time will be for the annual Alumni Game on May 30, which will be followed by the Havre Jamboree to fill that weekend.
