(Glacier National Park) Due to heavy rains and possible snowfall, a temporary closure of Going to the Sun Road in Glacier National Park (GNP) is in effect from Avalanche to Jackson Glacier Overlook in alpine sections.
The National Weather Service issued a prolonged rain and runoff warning through Monday, June 29. Sudden drops of temperature, and heavy rain caused rockslides and creek level rises are possible results.
Visitors are being advised of the possibility of dangerous to impassible travel conditions, as well as hypothermia dangers for backcountry hikers.
The closure area may change as needed for the safety of visitors and staff. GNP will continue to evaluate conditions, and re-open road sections as conditions allow. Updated information can be found on the park’s website.
