(NMB) The Havre Blue Pony Football team earned themselves a trip to the quarterfinals of the Class “A” football playoffs with a 38-0 win over Lockwood last Friday night and are now preparing for a match-up on Saturday with the number one seed from the West the Dillon Beavers. Dillon enters the game with a perfect 8 and 0 record. Blue Pony head coach Jake Eldridge says Dillon obviously is a very good football team that is physical and disciplined but his team is excited for the challenge and the opportunity.
“Obviously, they’re coached very well, but they play hard, they play physical, and they are very disciplined with what they’re supposed to do individually. They’ve got some dynamic football players. Obviously, it starts with their quarterback. He can really run and does a lot of good things in the run game and the read game, and he can throw the ball too. He’s very dynamic. He’s got some playmakers on the outside and he’s got a very good running back behind him. So, definitely got some threats that we have to make sure we bottle up but a great challenge and we’re super excited to be able to get down there and have this opportunity.”-Eldridge
For the Ponies to be successful on Saturday they’ll have to control the football.
“You’ve got to control the football. You can’t have turnovers and you have to get first downs. First downs lead to touchdowns and you have to end every series with a kick. Whether it’s punting the football or kicking a PAT or field goal. It’s really that simple. Execution on that side of the ball and be able to move the ball down the field and keep their offense off the field. They’re very dynamic. So, being able to do that is going to be huge for us.”-Eldridge
The Ponies and Dillon will kick off at 1pm Saturday in Dillon. You can listen to the game on KOJM.
Other Quarterfinal match-ups Saturday are Columbia Falls at Billings Central. Laurel at Corvallis and Hamilton at Lewistown.
