Havre boys’ basketball is (4-2) through 2024 into 2025 and suffered its second loss of the season to Butte Central down in Lockwood to close out the year. New Media Broadcasters got the thoughts of head coach Walynn Burgess as the team got to relax for a few days before hitting the ground running yet again while school is still on its Christmas break.
“(We’ve just been) looking at the film and doing some self-scouting and seeing where (we’re) at right now,” Burgess said. “Coming back out of break, we’re going to have some rust (and) a little bit of sloppiness.”
“We’re really looking forward to getting back out on the court and getting back into a routine here,” Burgess continued. “We’re glad we got to have a little bit of a break to recharge is what we’ve been calling it.”
“(We’re getting) ready for this run that we’re going to go on here in the next few weeks,” Burgess said.
Burgess and the Ponies will be back on court this weekend for a single game, taking on Laurel at home. Burgess spoke honestly about how it won’t be the prettiest performance, but said that it will measure up to the momentum needed to contend down the line in February and March.
“They’re a really good team. They just beat a really good Ronan team right before Christmas break,” Burgess said. “We saw that Ronan team and saw Laurel a couple of times this summer.”
“We just understand that there are going to be some hard workers,” Burgess continued. “We feel like it’s going to be real good competition for us.”
“It’s kind of exciting,” Burgess said. “I like having the one game coming back off break and focusing on Laurel this week, which is the plan for us,” Burgess said.”
Havre and Laurel’s boys will tip off from the Blue Pony Corral on Saturday with a scheduled 4pm start. Tony Vigliotti will be broadcasting on KOJM-610AM, 98.3FM, and HiLineToday.com.
