It’s been an uphill battle for Havre boys’ basketball this season, but the end of the regular season is near. Head coach Walynn Burgess told New Media Broadcasters his thoughts about the team’s most recent split with a loss to Glendive before rebounding with Sidney.
“I was really proud of the ways the guys responded on a quick turnaround playing another conference game,” Burgess said. “(We’re) taking care of our business where we’re supposed to.”
“(We picked) a good fight with Glendive. We know we’re going to see them at some point in time again down the road,” Burgess continued. “(I’m) just really excited about what’s coming. I think our growth has been really well.”
“We want to be playing our best basketball at the end of the month,” Burgess said. “I really feel like this team is turning those corners to get to that point.”
The Ponies will be back on court this weekend, starting out at rival Lewistown before heading back to the Corral for the makeup game against Laurel. Burgess said what he will be looking for as the team plays its last regular season contests.
“Oh man, we love it. We like getting on the road right before Divisionals and playing against a conference team that’s really tough like Lewistown,” Burgess said. “It means a little bit more standing-wise. We’re just really excited about the opportunity to get down there.”
“Then you turn around and come back and play your last home at the Corral against a team (in) Laurel we haven’t seen up here in a few years,” Burgess continued.
“(We’re) just excited about the challenge and that last test before we get on the divisional floor 10 days later,” Burgess said.
The (8-8, 4-3) Havre boys’ basketball team will match up with Lewistown (7-7, 3-1) on the road Friday night at 7:30pm before playing at home against Laurel on Saturday around 4pm. Both games will air on KOJM-610AM, 98.3FM, and HiLineToday.com with Noah Friedman calling the action on Saturday.
