Havre boys’ basketball survived another late challenge after building up a healthy lead, downing Malta on Tuesday night, (75-67). Head coach Walynn Burgess told New Media Broadcasters about the effort his team gave in order to stop the Mustangs’ from getting a come-from-behind victory.
“Those guys shot it really well, but kudos to our guys though of bending, but not breaking a little bit on it,” Burgess said. “There (are) some things that we are definitely looking (at) on film (and) change some things.”
“But overall, just a really good learning experience more than anything,” Burgess continued. “(We’ll) keep figuring it out and get to that Christmas stretch.”
That Christmas stretch continues with the final games of 2024 down in Lockwood. The Ponies will be facing Hamilton and Butte Central on back-to-back days and Burgess said what his team has shown him in the weeks since the season started.
“Just the growth part in all of it,” Burgess said. “Just come in every day, ready to go, get one percent better is what we always say.”
“I feel like guys have been doing it. We’ve been taking a lot of good learning. ” Burgess continued. “I think we’re better on December 17th compared to what we were”
“I think we’re just getting a lot better,” Burgess said. “It’s got to be a daily grind for these guys, but it’s been enjoyable. It’s a different experience for sure.”
The Lockwood Tip-Off Tournament will host Havre for a game on Friday around 4:30pm against Hamilton and around 5:30pm on Saturday versus Butte Central Catholic. There will be a feed on KOJM-610AM, 98.3FM, and HiLineToday.com for all the action.
