(GREAT FALLS) – A Poplar man accused of murder and using a firearm in the commission of the murder admitted to charges recently, United States Attorney Kurt Alme (Ahl-Me) said.
The defendant, Michael J. Ackerman, 74, pleaded guilty to one count of second-degree murder and one count of use of a firearm during a crime of violence. Ackerman faces a maximum term of life imprisonment, a $250,000 fine, and 5 years of supervised release.
Chief U.S. District Judge Brian M. Morris presided and will determine any sentence after considering the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and other statutory factors. Sentencing was set for June 3rd. Ackerman was detained pending further proceedings.
