Montanans can expect a potential change to the Block Management land access program.
Currently landowners are paid to offset the cost of allowing hunters onto their land, but the limit that the landowners are able to be paid may soon change.
At Tuesday’s Citizen Advisory Council Meeting in Havre the issue of the limit of funds for landowners was addressed to legislatures. Region Six FWP Supervisor Drew Henry explains more.
“One thing that was brought up today that the citizens of Montana are likely to see in the session is a proposal to increase the cap, the payment cap to those landowners. The amount of money that they receive to offset the impacts of hunter use on their property caps at $25,000, and yet they still incur above and beyond that in hunter day use on their properties. So that was one example, and a great example that inspired a lot of discussion about a statute change that may be coming forth in the legislative session to increase that cap to $50,000 to accommodate the amount of use that those landowners are allowing on their property.”-Drew Henry
